Crossroads cook gives ‘meals on wheels? new meaning

A cook at Crossroads for Youth gave new meaning to the phrase ‘meals on wheels? last month, after hand-delivering more than 200 meals to children living at the agency’s four residence halls and the dining hall.
On Sunday, Feb. 17, Jason Gdowksi, treked through the snow, freezing temperatures and ice on the dirt roads throughout the 320 acres after all other forms of transportation failed.
Nearly all the vehicles used to deliver the meals were sliding into ditches because of the inclement weather.
Even the tow truck that came to help got stuck in the ditch.
‘The kids needed to eat, so I just felt like I had to do what I had to do because I care,? said Gdowski, 33.
The cook simply wheeled the food on a flatbed hand truck.
‘Jason is just one example of the many dedicated staff members we have at Crossroads for Youth,? said Tracey Zambeck, development and agency relations director at Crossroads.
Crossroads president, Dr. Janet McPeek said it’s amazing to see how humble Gdowksi is in light of his ‘heroic? act.
‘Jason doesn’t think he did anything extraordinary,? she said. ‘But we think he’s a hero and we’re lucky to have him.?
