The Orion Township Public Library will be bringing the worldwide library program Outside the Lines to life around the community for the second year in a row, from Sept.11-17.
The Orion Library is one of four libraries in the state to take part in these events in 2016 and is excited to spread their events across all of Lake Orion so they can connect with more community members.
“Because Lake Orion is such a family-oriented community, a lot of people do come in here, but a lot of people don’t,” said Karen Know, library director.
“They don’t have time, so the more we can disperse ourselves throughout the community, the easier it is for us to provide better library services,” said Knox.
For every day of Outside the Lines, the library invites children to visit the library during open hours and decorate the surrounding sidewalks with their chalk drawing creations. The chalk will be provided.
The library will have a daily Pop-Up Library throughout the week at different locations, from Eva’s Dairy Cafe to the Lake Orion vs. Oxford Pink Out football game.
“A pop up library is a way to take this library and squish it down into a little table, go out into the community and tell people what we have to offer- that we have so much more than books,” said Becky Bolin, library community relations coordinator.
“We’re also going to have the ability for people to sign up for a library card right there.”
September is also National Library Card Sign up Month.
The library hopes to spread awareness of their services and sign up at least 300 community members for new library cards.
Patrons who sign up will be entered into a drawing for a gift card to a local restaurant.
Outside the Lines is an initiative designed by Colorado library marketers and directors from The Risk & Reward Conference, encouraging libraries to show their communities what they offer and how they have changed.
The Library is located at 825 Joslyn Road in Orion Township. For more information on “Outside the Lines” events, or to register for a program, visit orionlibrary.org.
