Kurt Richardson, long-time head coach for the Clarkston Varsity Football team, was called down to the basketball court on Friday night.
“I don’t like the hoopla,” he admitted when Dale Ryan, voice of the Wolves, called him down to the floor.
Richardson had two visitors – Chris Fritzsching, Detroit Lions Director of Youth Football, and Roary, the Detroit Lions mascot.
And it was a surprise for Richardson as they recognized him as the 2013 Detroit Lions High School Football Coach of the Year.
“It’s like any other coaching honor you get in football it should go to the staff not the individual,” Richardson said. “Our staff is responsible for that – not me.”
He received a Coach of the Year certificate signed by Roger Goodell, National Football League Commissioner, and Jim Swartz, Detroit Lions’ Head Coach, a commemorative NFL/Coach of the Year game ball and a Coach of the Year hat. He also received a $2,000 donation for the football program.
“That’s awesome,” he said. “It’s huge. Every little bit helps.?
During the Lions’ game this Sunday Richardson will be recognized as the 2013 Detroit Lions High School Football Coach of the Year.
