The Clarkston Village Players are once again stretching their acting talents in the Pulitzer Prize and Tony Award winning play ‘Proof? by David Auburn.
The drama explores the life of Catherine and her relationships to her deceased father, her remote sister and even herself.
Catherine has spent years caring for her brilliant, but unstable father, a famous mathematician. Shortly after his death, she discovers a mysterious notebook that draws out the most difficult question of all ? how much like her father is Catherine? How much of his genius, or madness, will and does she have?
‘I wanted to direct this because it’s simply an outstanding drama,? said Director Al Bartlett. ‘I really enjoy this play in terms of the insights about who we are, what we want and what we’re afraid of about ourselves and what we know about ourselves.?
‘This production will attract anyone with an interest in a story that keeps you wondering,? added Bartlett. ‘Anyone who enjoys characters and their development will really enjoy this play. It has a wonderful element of mystery throughout.?
Although a smaller cast than many of their other productions, ‘Proof? features some of CVP’s best talent: Chris Horstman as Catherine, Adam Kipiniak as Hal, Verne Vackaro as Robert and Cindy Haaseth as Claire.
The scene is set in present time on the back porch of the family’s Chicago home. The production has two acts.
‘I hope people take away an appreciation for the work the author has written,? he stated. ‘I hope they take away a better understanding of self.?
‘Proof? contains some adult language, including profanity, and is not recommended for children under 18.
‘Proof? will run January 14-15, 21-23 and 27-29. Thursday performances begin at 7:30 p.m., Sunday performances at 2 p.m., and Friday and Saturday performances at 8 p.m. Tickets are $10 for Thursday and Sunday performances, and $12 for Friday and Saturday.
