If you think it’s impossible for a plain yellow pumpkin to become a golden carriage, then you need to experience the magic that’s in store at the high school’s musical ‘Cinderella.?
The show is set to run Thursday, May 8 and Friday, May 9 at 7 p.m., with a 1 p.m. matinee on Saturday, May 10 at the OHS Performing Art Center. Tickets are $7, children and seniors are $5, children under three are free.
Treated like a slave by her Wicked Stepmother (Lydia McRae) and stepsisters Portia (Adrianne Schmidt) and Joy (Stephanie Schmidt), Cinderella (Marsha McMunn) seeks refuge in her own little corner of the house, where she frequently daydreams of a better life.
As she fantasizes one night about going to the ball at Prince Charming’s (Dan Hayward) castle, Cinderella’s Fairy Godmother (Amanda Ryskamp) miraculously provides her with a beautiful gown and a fancy carriage to attend, but warns her that the magic will last only until midnight.
At the ball, the Prince falls in love with Cinderella, but as midnight is about to strike, she flees, leaving only one of her glass slippers behind for the prince to find.
Will the prince ever find his one true love again?
Set to the music of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein played by Oxford’s Pit Band directed by Jim Gibbons, ‘Cinderella? is one of the greatest love stories of our time that every girl dreams about.
The musical is directed by Debra Brown and student directors Chandler Macocha and Kate McQuater.
