Natalee McGinnis, Alayna Skipton, Alison Wright and Susan Hoddinott are dancing their way into the hearts of Clarkston SCAMPers.
The four Clarkston High School students are volunteering their time for dance classes devoted to getting campers up and moving.
‘We make up routines, and in the beginning some people are sitting, but by the end they are all up dancing,? Wright said, a junior at CHS.
Wright, along with the other three girls, are on the CHS pom pon team. They also all dance at Roxanne’s Studio Expressions, where they saw a flyer asking for volunteers to teach the SCAMP dance class.
‘They needed people to help out, because the people that did were leaving,? Wright said.
All four girls jumped at the chance, and are loving the experience.
‘So far I’m having lots of fun,? said Skipton, a senior at CHS. ‘All the kids are unique and talented in their own ways. Watching them really brings a smile to my face.?
Hoddinott, a sophmore at CHS, agrees, ‘I am having so much fun.?
Wright explained how the girls even took the routines a step further.
‘We have costumes, we have pirate hats, leis and maracas,? she said.
The classes are on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 10 – 11:30 a.m., with a new group coming each half hour. The classes continue through this week. The girls receive community service hours, but that is just a minor perk to the job.
‘I wish I would have gotten involved earlier, it is such a good experience,? Skipton said.
