Senior Matt Kamieniecki led the pack of Wolves as they went against Detroit Henry Ford on Saturday.
He posted 16 points for the night but the end result was in Henry Ford’s favor as Clarkston lost, 45-44.
‘Honestly it was a game we should have won,? said Wolves Varsity Basketball Head Coach Dan Fife. ‘I thought we were the better team.?
The boys were up by eight points when they ended the first half of the game, but during the next half Henry Ford caught up and captured the lead in the last minute.
‘We had the last shot and missed it,? he said.
Tyler Scarlett gave the team a big boost during the night and helped out on both ends on the court, putting 10 points on the board.
‘Scarlett handled it pretty good,? said Fife. ‘He never had to handle it like he had for the night. He did a good job, but that’s what I expect from him.?
The game will act as a stepping stone as they continue into the next game.
‘It’s something we can build on,? he said. ‘It would be something if we had won ugly and didn’t learn from it.?
Also, the new players experienced first hand what they need to do.
‘They see how much physically more they need to put into not only the game, but into practice,? said Fife. ‘It’s hard to prepare for that kind of quickness and strength but they have to practice. I have extremely higher expectations of the kids than they may have on themselves. Some kids aren’t ready to make the jump and it is a jump.?
The boys face Carman-Ainsworth (2-0) on Wednesday for their first home game.
‘They are probably a better team than Henry Ford,? said Fife.
Then, they face Troy on Friday night.
‘Troy always plays tough and it’s an away game,” he said.
JV begins at 5:30 p.m., varsity follows for both games.
