Grapplers were ready to win their second meet after some motivation from their head coach Joe DeGain last Wednesday.
After beating Avondale, 51-15, the boys continued their win, shutting down West Bloomfield, 65-0.
Derek Booker (160) led against the Lakers winning the first match by major decision.
Alex Popp (135) and Kyle Broughton (130) were two wrestlers who stood out for the evening.
‘I am real proud of both of those guys for their meet this week. They did a great job,? said DeGain.
Popp finished the night beating West Bloomfield 21-8. Earlier in the night he beat his Avondale opponent with a technical fall before the match finished.
‘Alex was relentless in his attack,? said DeGain. ‘He had a good opponent against West Bloomfield and he didn’t let up at all.?
Broughton also had two victories for the night. He started against Avondale and ended the match with a tie, 6-6. Only 29 seconds into overtime he won with two points.
He won his match against the Lakers with a take down.
‘He did a very good, disciplined job,? said DeGain.
‘The guys are coming out real strong,? said DeGain about the team’s performance for the dual meet. ‘They are doing a good job with their intensity. We are beginning with the intensity but they seem to be dropping off by the end of their matches and lightening up on the opponent. We have to train not to lighten up.?

Clarkston took second place at Herm Wilkinson Classic at Howell High School on Saturday.
The top placers for the Wolves were Matt Vandermeer (171), Sloan Hadsall (189), and Alex Popp (145) in second; Matt Deitz (135) in third, Chris Burkhart (140) and Mike Richmond (285) in fourth; Kyle Broughton (130) and Evan King (152) in fifth; Derek Booker (160) in sixth; and Raymond Wilkie (103), Mike Williams (119) and Mike Henige (125) in seventh.
Next for the boys is the Oakland County Tournament beginning Friday.
‘Oakland County is always fun,? said DeGain. ‘It breaks the season in half. It’s the pinnacle of what we work for for the first half of the season. The other half of the season is what we work towards for the state meet.?
Last year the Wolves took third place and rivals Lake Orion were champions of the tournament.
‘The guys need to get up for it, they need to be excited. It’s a good practice for the state meet. They want ownership over the Oakland County meet and I expect them to come out like they want it.?
DeGain knows everyone has a chance to win the tournament and knows what it will take for the boys to win.
‘It’s going to come down to who can show up that day and go after it that’s who will be crowned champion.?
The event is held at Oxford Middle School located at 1420 Lakeville Road. The matches on Friday begin at 3 p.m. and continue on Saturday, beginning at 8 a.m..
They will host one last match before going on their holiday break, against Davison on Monday at 7 p.m.
