Buoyed by a 25-point second quarter, the Brandon varsity boys basketball team earned its first win of the 2006-07 campaign Tuesday, Jan. 9.
The visiting Blackhawks defeated Flint Metro League foe Linden 64-54, improving to 1-5 overall and 1-1 in league play.
‘We came out and played hard in the first half, which is something we’ve been struggling with for some reason,? Brandon Coach Tim Donnan said. ‘We were showing energy, attacking, and forcing them to play our tempo.?
The Eagles hung tough with the Blackhawks for a quarter, with Brandon taking a 15-11 lead after the first quarter. However, Brandon took control in the second quarter on their way to a 40-23 halftime lead, and the Blackhawks were on their way to the win.
Dustin Deshais was the Blackhawks? top scorer, drilling four three-pointers on his way to a game-leading 26 points. Senior Adrain Harges added 17 points for the Blackhawks.
A sophomore, Deshais has been a top scorer for the Blackhawks in the early part of the season. Donnan said the reason for that is twofold.
‘A lot of that is coming because he’s worked extremely hard in the offseason,? he said. ‘Another part is because he has good teammates to get him the ball and set screens.?
