Five boys qualify for state meet
The boys track team took second place at the MHSAA Region 9 Track and Field Championship on Friday with an overall score of 81 points.
The boys were very competitive throughout the meet with five athletes qualifying for the MHSAA State Meet on June 1.
The Dragons also had two regional champions, in three events.
Senior Captain Thomas Moreman qulified for states in both the 110m high hurdles and the 300m hurdles with 14.28 and 37.63, respectively. Both were facility and school record times.
Senior Captain Sebastain Marku threw a personal best in the shot put to win the regional championship in that event, qualifying him for the state meet.
Senior Zach Dinverno qualified for pole vault by making the qualifying height of 13’ for which he received third place at the meet.
Senior and captain Ryan Mulcahy placed fifth in the 1,600m run and seventh in the high jump.
Junior Amaru Abdul-Raheem placed third in the long jump, and also hit the qualifying standard of 21’ 02”.
Amaru ran on the 4 x 100m relay that placed sixth, along with Dillon Altman, Joseph Thede, and Matthew Freeman.
Junior Andrew Nolan ran a personal best in the 1,600m run with a time of 4:19.59 to finish in second. Andrew was also second in the 3,200m run with a personal best time of 9:34.48 to qualify in his second event.
Also scoring for the Dragons were Senior Savion McHenry with fourth place in the long jump. Junior Nicholas Campbell, with a sixth place pole vault. And the 4 x 800m Relay, consisting of Xavier Nunley, Nicholas Wolf, Brett Earnest, and Nicholas Laurent which took home seventh place.
As the season comes to a close, the boys will travel to Clarkston High School on Friday for the Oakland County Meet. — M.K.
