The Lake Orion Dragons hit the road last weekend to take on their two closest rivals.
Jan. 23, the boys traveled to Clarkston High School defeating the Wolves 121-65.
Senior Alex Brent kicked off the night by delivering an impressive performance in the diving portion.
Lake Orion turned up the heat, winning every relay event of the night.
In the 200 medley, freshman Evan Fox swam backstroke, sophomore Kevin Vanpoelvoorde took breaststroke, followed by junior Dane Herrick in the butterfly and sophomore Cooper Clausen in the final freestyle leg. The boys finished first by less than a second.
In the 200-yard freestyle, junior Brendan Ledtke finished in first place while senior Ben Gregg secured second and freshman Wyatt Pawlaczyk took third.
Gregg and Pawlaczyk also finished in first and second place respectively with new swimmers, junior Jack Watt and freshman Adam Thelen finishing close behind.
Additionally, Vanpoelvoorde defeated a Clarkston opponent in the 100-yard breaststroke by one-hundredth of a second.
On Jan. 25, the boys headed north to Oxford for the 2020 Boys Wildcat Diving Invitational where the Dragons finished fourth out of 15.
Brent gave another outstanding performance finishing second in the 11-dive event and earning a NISCA All-American qualifying score of 459.40.
Junior Blake Burgess finished in ninth place while sophomore William Kahrl finished thirteenth.
The boys are back on the road on Jan. 30 at North Farmington High School. — M.K.
