Boys cross country finishes in top 10 at county championship

The Lake Orion boys cross country team continued to be a force in county, finishing in ninth place out of 39 schools at the Oakland County Championships on Oct. 5.

“Andrew Nolan continues to put together a fine senior season, with his performance at the Oakland County Championships. His second place finish earned him All-County honors, and his time equals the best Dragon performance at this meet, on this very difficult course,” said Coach Stan Ford.

“Back in 1998, Dragon Jordan Desilets ran 16 minutes, as did Andrew this past Saturday. Both ironically, finished second. Andrew finished second last year also, but was 22 seconds faster this year,” Ford said.

Sophomores Jacob Gleason (51st place), Clayton Kuiper (52nd), Will Houvener (72nd) and Adam Hafeli (86th), rounded out the Dragon scoring.

Freshman Horacio Lopes, and sophomore Andrew Jacques also competed on varsity. Sophomore Hong Bing Tank and freshman Luke Peardon, who both usually are in the top seven on the team, are returning from slight injuries, and should be back racing this week at the Oxford Invitational, Ford said.

Junior Varsity finishes in second place

The JV squad ran very well, finishing second in the large field, Ford said.

Junior Nicholas Laurent and Freshman Jake Smith finished 5th and 6th respectively, with times that will put them on varsity for the Oxford Invite, Ford said.

Sophomores Ronnie Leonard, Evan Waters and freshman Evan Fox all scored for the Dragons.

The Oxford Invite begins at 4 p.m. Friday at Oxford Hills Golf Course. The girls JV runs at 4:15 p.m.; the boys JV at 4:45 p.m.; girls varsity at 5:15 p.m. and boys varsity at 5:45 p.m.

The OAA Red Championship meet begins at 3 p.m. Oct. 17 at Clintonwood Park, 6000 Clarkston Rd, in Clarkston.
