Bowlers compete at county level

The Oxford Varsity boy’s and girl’s bowling teams hit the lanes this past weekend for the Oakland County Tournament in Commerce Township, finishing in 17th and 13th place out of 25 teams, respectively.
The boys had great individual efforts made by juniors James Roberts, who shot games of 233 and 236, and Steven Lafnear, who had games of 244 and 215. Senior Ben Griggs won a county medal for his 257 game, which is also the team’s high game for the season.
Lafnear and sophomore Michael Magyar also went 8 for 8 in baker bowling.
The team missed making the final cut of 16 by four pins.
The girls made it to the final cut, but lost in round one to the champions from Walled Lake Central. They fell short by 49 pins. It’s the second year the girls have qualified and lost in round one.
Junior Ashlee High lead the way with her 534 series and a 197 game. Other nice performances came from junior Dayna Rein’s 153, sophomore Kelly Carner’s 166 and sophomore Sarah Decker’s 172 and 181.
Oxford is hosting Saturday’s bowling match against Lake Orion at Collier Lanes beginning at 10 a.m. They also compete against Waterford Kettering on Sunday, Feb. 3 at 4:30 p.m. in Waterford.
