Booters fall to West, beat North Branch

The Oxford Varsity girls? soccer team lost a heartbreaking game against Lapeer West 0-1 Monday night.
The Wildcats controlled possession for most of the game, with eight offensive corner kicks ? five in the first half.
‘We kept the ball in their end most of the game with many chances to score,? said Coach Mark Sullivant.
Oxford just couldn’t seem to capitalize on their opportunities. The best chance for a goal came in the opening five minutes of the second half when junior Brittany Moncrieff had a break-away and shot just wide of the goal.
Great plays came from senior captains Jackie Patterson and Alex Johnson, juniors Brianna Pastewski and Taylor Dewey.
Last Wednesday, the girls took on North Branch, winning 4-0. Goals were made by Pastewski, junior Colleen Turley and two from Moncrieff. Sullivant credits ‘stellar play? from freshman goalkeeper Sara Stroope, who made 20 saves in the net, junior defender Olivia Stevens, sophomore midfielder Kelsey Littman and senior midfielder Andrea Wolf for a great game.
‘It was a total team effort and the team has continued to improve throughout the season,? he said.
Oxford is now 4-6 overall and 2-1 in the Flint Metro League. They take on Fenton at home at 6:45 p.m.
