The Lakeville Cemetery now has a beautiful gazebo for visitors to sit at while remembering their loved ones, thanks to the Addison Township Board of Trustee’s chipping in $4,000 last week.
‘Now, if someone’s having a funeral and there’s nasty weather there’s actually someplace for them to go,? said Clerk Pauline Bennett. ‘It’s wonderful.?
Installed Tuesday, the gazebo, which is 12-feet in diameter in an octagon shape and made of white vinyl, sits in the southwest corner of the quaint cemetery next to the flagpoles and houses a couple benches.
Total cost for the gazebo was around $7,000, and the Lakeville Cemetery Auxiliary raised about $3,000 from their bi-annual spaghetti dinners and other fund-raisers. When Addison added their share, it was a sure thing.
Bob Godkin, vice president of the auxiliary, said they purchased the ‘gazebo kit? from Pennsylvania-based HomePlace Structures.
Eventually, the auxiliary would like to landscape the area and create a small, brick pathway leading to the gazebo. Bricks could be purchased by people and have names engraved on them in memory of loved ones.
