Glitz Salon of Clarkston is preparing its biggest fundraiser of the year, its Cut-a-Thon to benefit Children’s Leukemia Foundation.
‘We’ll bring in the whole team, 100 stylists, about 200 volunteers,” said owner Cherie Barnett. “One hundred percent of proceeds will be donated to the foundation.”
The July 27 fundraiser, 8 a.m.-4 p.m., will include circus activities, live music, silent auction, inflatable games, car show, massages by Belle Visage, face painting, crafts, raffles, hot dogs, cotton candy, 5K run, superheroes, and princesses, in addition to hair cuts, Barnett said.
“This is a really great event ? it’s big,” she said. “It gets bigger and bigger every year.”
Princesses will arrive by horse and carriage. The heroes, hopefully, by helicopter, she said.
“Children will get to meet them and get their photos taken with them,” she said. “They’re an enormous draw, quite amazing, spectacular.”
Items donated for the auction include $2,000 wedding gown, float plane rides, golf packages, antiques, sports memorabilia, and signed autographs, she said.
“Tons of stuff. We have some amazing donations for the auction,” she said.
The salon hosts activities in conjunction with Disney, and sponsors activities throughout the year, including Independence Township Fourth of July fireworks. The cut-a-thon is its main event, raising Raises $30,000-$40,000 for the foundation, she said.
“We do things throughout the year, but this is our big one,” she said. “We give it all that day.”
Barnett started the Cut-A-Thon concept 19 years ago in Clarkston, when a young client she knew well, Mike Quinn of Lake Orion, was diagnosed with leukemia.
The concept resumed seven years ago after the Glitz staff was deeply touched by a Make-A-Wish makeover request from a girl named Stephanie.
“It’s a very emotional, yet very positive day,? Barnett said.
The fundraiser will be at Glitz NXP, 4868 S. Baldwin Road.
“We need a big parking lot,” Barnett said.
