An Oxford Middle School student could face expulsion after bringing a BB handgun and 4-inch knife to school Oct. 23.
The 13-year-old boy from Leonard was seen by Assistant Principal Dacia Beazley walking toward his bus after school with his hand tucked suspiciously inside his coat.
According to the sheriff’s report, Beazley found the BB handgun under the boy’s jacket and the knife in his front pants pocket. A condom and jackknife were also found on the teen.
In his written statement, the boy said he brought the weapons to school for ‘protection? after being in a fight with another student and being verbally threatened by the student’s older brother. He also wrote that he ‘had no reason to hurt anyone.?
According to OMS Principal Ken Weaver, the student is suspended indefinitely and the Board of Education will decide further action at their next board meeting on Nov. 6.
