Sluggers are looking for their next win after last week’s losses.
‘We are playing good baseball,? said Coach Jeff Willis of the boys varsity team. ‘We are just waiting for that clencher against defense to win.?
For Willis, the boys are having no problem hitting, pitching, or catching. They have all the keys to succeed on the diamond. But the defense they come up against is just tougher.
‘Sooner or later we are going to get a break,? said Willis. ‘I have all the confidence in the world in them. We have come a long way and we are still a young team.
The boys games last Thursday were cancelled due to the weather.
They took to the field on Friday against Fenton in a double header and had no hits in the first game. They lost 10-0.
The next game was more of a battle and ended in the sixth inning, on account of darkness, with both teams tied at three.
Wildcats headed to Owosso for games against host, Owosso and Kearsley.
The boys took on Kearsley next and found themselves behind one run going into the third inning.
They knew what they had to do and scored four runs that inning from Geoff Charles, Anthony Luciano, Nick Trombella and Mitch Stefanski.
Kearsley came back to score five runs in the next innings, finishing the game 6-4.
‘We gave up one in the sixth, two in the seventh and then two more in the top of the eighth,? said Willis.
Alex Seiner had two RBIs.
Trombella and Luciano went 2-for-4 at bat and Stefanski went 1-for-4.
They began the week against Lapeer East on Monday with two more losses, 9-4 and 6-3.
In the first game the Wildcats score three in the first inning, but Lapeer picked up the pace and scored seven runs in the fourth and fifth innings.
Trombella had two runs and also contributing were Luciano and Charles with a run each.
Billy Kammerer had two RBIs. Alex Seine and Jordan MacOcha brought in one.
The boys were behind by three going into the fifth inning and scored three runs from Charles, Luciano and Nick Balch.
East scored their own three at the bottom of the fifth, continuing their lead by three.
The Wildcats loaded the bases during the sixth inning.
‘We just couldn’t scratch,? said Willis before the boys lost, 6-3.
The team only had ten players for the night, showing Willis with five players out, they could handle their own.
In the second game, Kammerer was 2-for-4 at the bat, hit a double and brought in one run.
Seiner was 2-for-4 at bat and MacOcha was 1-for-3.
Stefanski had one RBI.
The boys will host Swartz Creek on Thursday and Brandon on Saturday.
The game begins at 4:30 p.m. against Creek and Brandon at 2 p.m.
Both are double headers.
