Cagers knocked down one foe at a time last week – most recently ending with Troy on Monday with a 87-46.
The win came after dominating Southfield on Friday night to take over the OAA Red, 56-42.
‘We are still young,? said long-time Clarkston Boys Varsity Basketball head coach Dan Fife. ‘We still have the tendency to play young. We need to focus. This game was a good game for us. They (Southfield) are a good team. They are talented and strong. They have good offensive players but I thought we did a good job on the board and running and executing our offense.?
With the win over the Bluejays and taking first in the league, the Wolves know the fight for the title isn’t over with three more OAA Red games to go in the season.
‘I don’t know anyone’s record,? Fife admitted. ‘I don’t want to worry about anybody but us and take care of what we need to. We have Pontiac and Southfield Lathrup – both away and tough places to play.?
He explained since the last time they played Southfield Lathrup, the Chargers have more players back and the team will be better.
The Wolves opened the game with a basket from junior Press Kampe and two from senior Jordan Dasuqi to take the lead. They continued to add more to the board, finishing the first quarter 16-10.
Southfield caught up and took the lead with one point at the beginning of the second quarter. Sophomore Mason Vires reacted with shooting a field goal and taking the lead back.
Junior Michael Nicholson, senior Nathan Yeloushan and Dasuqi scored more points to put more distance on the board for the lead. The Wolves ended the half with a 32-23 lead with one final basket from sophomore Merrick Canada before halftime.
Both teams hit a drought of points at the beginning of the second half.
‘Both teams were getting tired,? Fife added. ‘We just try to take shots and rush shots and defend. It is no secret what we do.?
The boys broke out with 3:20 to go with a shot by Dasuqi off a pass from Yeloushan. Sophomore Andrew Myers scored three more points to end the quarter at 41-33.
Dasuqi led with 19 points.
‘Dasuqi was good on guard,? Fife added. ‘Kampe and Nicholson were good.?
The Wolves beat West Bloomfield for their third win in the league on Feb. 12, 62-50. Dasuqi led the team, scoring 25 points and five field goals. Owens added 16 points to the board.
The boys (13-3) head to Pontiac on Friday and are back at Clarkston next Tuesday for their last home game against North Farmington. JV begins at 5:30 p.m., varsity follows.
