Jon Avery led the Wolves to their win last Wednesday night.
He scored five goals and had one assist in the game against Essex High School from Ontario, Canada.
‘He was a whole new player tonight,? said Clarkston coach Brian Kaminskas. ‘He really came out and played extremely well. I was really happy with the way he moved the ball. He distributed it well. He was fighting for it. We had a couple of injuries and a few guys on the bench he usually plays with. He knew going into the game had to pick up the slack a little bit. We had a few guys that don’t have that much experience.?
The team followed Avery’s lead and added six more points to bring Clarkston to their win, 11-6.
‘I was extremely pleased with the way they played,? said Kaminskas.
‘I think they turned over a new leaf. They have been working hard at practice They are putting things together and their skills are starting to show. We got a nice, complete game out of them.?
For the first half of the game, Clarkston led 4-1. Three goals from Avery and one goal from Forbes Dever helped the Wolves to control the field.
Essex scored five goals in the next half. Three of their goals in the last few minutes of the game but it wasn’t enough to catch up with Clarkston’s score.
‘I thought Zak Lewy, our goalie, did a terrific job,? said Kaminskas. ‘Adam Haslinger, one of our defenseman, did a wonderful job. Forbes Dever did a terrific job with our face-offs.”
