Addison approves master plan for parks

Addison Township has a clear direction for it’s parks for the next five years.
At the township board’s Dec. 19 meeting, officials voted unanimously to approve the 2012-17 Parks, Recreation and Open Space Master Plan.
‘The park committee worked diligently on the park master plan,? Addison Twp. supervisor Bruce Pearson said. ‘We had the draft copies for a few months. The planners reviewed it and made a few minor changes, and it looks good to go now.?
According to the master plan, a recreational sports park ? complete with soccer and baseball fields, basketball and tennis courts and an ice skating rink ? would be built somewhere within the township.
Improvements to the township’s existing parks ? Watershed Preserve, Lake George Nature Park and Labodie Park ? were also outlined in the master plan.
‘I think it moves the township forward with regards to the plans and its advanced outlook on the township,? trustee John Sutphin said.
Bike paths along Rochester and Lakeville Roads were also included in the master plan, with the possibility of a circular bike path around the township being developed.
The circular bike path would go north along Rochester Rd. to the Polly Ann Trail, down the Polly Ann Trial to Lake George and follow Lake George down to Drahner.
The path would then extend from Drahner to Rochester Rd. all the way up to Leonard.
‘I would like to thank Joe Schnur, who is the chairman on the Park Committee, for this one,? Pearson said. ‘He has done an awful lot of work and I am indebted to him for all the work he does for us on the park.?
