The Lake Orion Village Council voted 5-0 last week to allocate its $335,128 in American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) Coronavirus Local Fiscal Recovery Funds (CLFRF) to the village’s Water and Sewer Fund.
While the previous village manager had already added the funds to the Water and Sewer Fund, current Manager Darwin McClary asked council to officially adopt a resolution allocating the funds before Dec. 31, 2023.
“The 2024 state revenue sharing payments include a 1% statutory revenue sharing payment that would be available to the village if we were able to obligate these funds this year,” McClary said. “We are not required by federal law to obligate them until the end of next year, but we would receive a little bit of revenue sharing if we obligate them now.”
With the village preparing to undertake a large project in replacing old sewer pumps, the funding will go toward that project, which is estimated to cost more than $8 million. — M.K.
