Entering any room, you’d hear the laughter first. Loretta was “in the house.” You would find yourself drawn in, as she regaled story after story of life growing up, eyes brightening as she shared various shenanigans about her children and life events. Everyone who met Loretta found themselves charmed by her beautiful smile, contagious laughter, and feisty spirit; always brightening the hearts of others.
Loretta F. McGuire passed away on Oct. 16, 2022
Loretta’s story began in Madison Heights, Michigan, born on April 15, 1938. She shared her early life with five siblings (John, Herbert, Thelma, Richard and Jim). She survived extremely impoverished beginnings and a challenging childhood.
However, her strong spirit carried her through when she met and married her Prince Charming, Thomas J. McGuire, Jr. on April 21, 1956. Loretta and Tom were married 51 years, giving birth to their family of five children (Ann, Linda (Rick), Theresa (Dave), Karen (Mike), Thomas), five grandchildren (Krysten, Brandon, Alex, Richard, Ashley, Melissa) and five great-grandchildren (Aidan, Hunter, Keeley, Walker, Lyla).
She is preceded in death by her parents (Anne and John), husband (Thomas) and granddaughter (Alex), and siblings (John, Herbert and Richard).
Loretta absolutely loved being a mother; teaching her babies to play barefoot in the rain, rolling down hills squealing with delight, and lavishing them with love and attention; then doing it all again with her grand babies. As adults, she also became a friend to her children, being their confidant, mentor, sounding board and cheerleader.
A devout Catholic all her adult life, Loretta put her trust and faith in God; she didn’t know a stranger (even when she should); and surviving through many life challenges, she thrived to inspire so much affection and laughter, a true legacy of Love.
At 84, Loretta is now “taking her stories onward,” after her long journey with many challenging health issues and in the loving care of her daughter Karen and son in-law Mike.
Loretta’s family is eternally grateful for her caregiver and friend (Donna Barrett), whose love, friendship and gentle care, provided such joy and peace during the last two years of her life. Loretta will be remembered as wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, friend, and the Queen-of-Dice; whose love, faith, and laughter (always laughter), brought everyone she met, such joy.
What a gift… she will be dearly missed, until we meet again.
