M-24 continues to be a problem for traffic accidents
Lake Orion police responded to a traffic accident at N. Park Boulevard (M-24) and Elizabeth Street at 5:55 p.m. Nov. 9 after a blue Equinox crashed into the back of a black Town & Country. There were no injuries reported.
Credit card/ID theft from Florida
Lake Orion police took a report from a resident on Heights Road at 10:33 a.m. Nov. 13 regarding an identity theft.
The resident informed police that someone used their credit card number and made a purchase online from somewhere in Florida. Police are investigating.
Note: It’s a good idea to always double check credit card and bank account statements for suspicious activity.
Beware of ‘Amazon employee’ phone scam this holiday season
Lake Orion took a telephone scam report from a Flint Street resident at 3:36 p.m. Nov. 13 after a bogus Amazon employee called the resident.
A person posing as an Amazon employee called the resident claiming that someone purchased a phone for $1,000 on the Lake Orion man’s account.
The fake Amazon employee told the man that in order for him to receive a refund, the man must purchase a $500 gift and send a picture of the gift card to the person posing as an Amazon employee.
The man purchased the gift card, sent a photo and the money was taken from the gift, according to a police report.
The victim lost $500 to the scammer. Police are investigating.
