Independence approves budget

The Independence Township Board of Trustees approved the 2004 budget after a short public hearing.
In a report to the board, Susan Hendricks presented a budget with expenditures totaling $5,681,866 and a fund balance of $726,321.
“There were no big changes compared with last year’s budget,” Hendricks said.

In other news coming from the board meeting:
• The board approved a request from Fire Chief Steve Ronk to purchase a 2004 Ford Excursion for $35,288 and a new Ford Expedition for $25,702.
• Approved $8,200 for landscaping Concept Plans and Construction Documents for Holcomb Road from Ellis Road to just east of Reese from Carlisle/Wortman Associates.
“This will be similar to the project on Waldon Road,” Planner Dick Carlisle said. “It is a sign of the times that as we improve the roads in the township more trees are removed. This is an opportunity to replace and beautify the area.”
