Sokol, Leonard J., age 74, of Oakland Township. Passed away July 28, 2016. Beloved husband of Lisa (nee Fitzpatrick) for 36 years; son of the late Joseph and Helen Sokol; brother of Barbara (Ronald) Benning; brother-in-law of Jim (Linda) Fitzpatrick and Susan (Brad) Duggan; uncle of Christopher, Gretchen, Jason (Marilyn), Christopher, Bryan, Austin (Theresa), and Ian (Jamie); great-uncle of Jacquelyn and Michael.
Leonard was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a loving husband and kindred spirit. Leonard loved to garden, read, bike and fish. He loved to photograph nature, read history, discuss politics, create or view art, listen to music and care for his cats. He was a kind, loving and compassionate man. He was willing to volunteer or help anyone.
Len worked at Hudsons, Marshall Fields and Macy’s in display and special events. His creative spirit was in evidence in all he did at work, at home and artistically. Len was loved by so many for his caring, kind ways and his gregarious nature whether with an aunt or uncle, neighborhood dog, friend or small child. He loved Lisa, his soul mate, unconditionally for over 45 years. He lived his passions without reservation sharing his skills and knowledge generously with others. He will live on in the memories of everyone whose life he touched. Suggested donations to: Detroit Institute of Arts, Detroit Zoo, or Orion Veterans Memorial. I still remember all the many times Len was there to help with Orion Historical Society events. His kindness and sharp wit remain in my memory even after all this time.
