From 4-8 p.m., Feb. 24, Brandon School District and the Ortonville Chamber of Commerce will host the Community & Education Exploration Night at Brandon High School, 1025 S. Ortonville Road, Ortonville.
Tonia Seling, Expo coordinator and owner of Paramount Signs & GraphiX, 910 Ortonville Road, said the Ortonville Chamber has organized the business expo in our community for the last 15 years.
‘Due to time and schedule constraints, we haven’t had one since 2014 so we are excited for this year’s Expo,? she said. ‘This is the first time we have had the opportunity to hold the expo in conjunction with a school event. As a former organizer the struggle has always been ‘how do we draw the public to our event?? When Dan Stevens, Brandon High School principal, approached the board with the idea of pairing the event with the Education Exploration Night we thought it was a brilliant idea. Not only are we able to expose the community to our businesses, but we are able to show students the career opportunities available within our community.?
BHS Principal Dan Stevens welcomes the community to the event.
‘It’s our third year we’ve hosted the Education Explorations Night,? he said.
‘We encourage students and parents to stop by and check out the great opportunities going on at Brandon Schools. From the programs available to classes at the high school to getting to know some of the area businesses, Feb. 24 will be a great night for the community. This year we’ve integrated the Chamber of Commerce to help prepare those students who may be seeking a future in business. There’s time to chat with a variety of business owners and investigate a possible career path.?
This year there will be a limited number of vendor spots available because cafeteria space will be shared with Brandon robotics demonstrations. Thirty vendor spots are available along with demonstrations from the award-winning Brandon Robotics Team. Cost is $45 for a 5-foot table and $75 for a 10-foot . Informational booths and breakout sessions presented by various BHS organizations.
‘This format is very beneficial for our vendors as spectators will be passing through the expo to see the demonstrations,? added Seling. ‘If this year is successful the Chamber would like to make it an annual event. The goal of the expo is to raise funds to provide Brandon High school seniors with scholarships. We are still firming up some details but we have confirmed a bounce house for kids, face painting and door prize giveaways.?
The public can expect to see businesses ranging from home improvement services, government entities, cellular providers, the banking industry, retail shops, and more.
