All seven seats on the Independence Township Board are up for election this year.
So far, Supervisor Pat Kittle, Treasurer Paul Brown, and Clerk Barb Pallotta said they running for re-election.
‘I have enjoyed my time as supervisor, so yes, I have in fact decided to run again.? Kittle said, adding he turned in signatures and the required paperwork to Oakland County to run as a Republican.
Deadline for candidates to file for the Aug. 2 primary is April 19.
Clarkston Mayor Joe Luginski, and Council members Al Avery, Sharron Catallo, and Michael Sabol’s seats are up for election on Nov. 8. Filing deadline for city candidates is July 21.
Council members Eric Haven, Jason Kneisc, and David Marsh’s terms are up in 2017.
Local Tom Middleton said he plans to run for re-election to the Oakland County Commission District 4 seat, and incumbent Judge Kelley Kostin is running for re-election in 52-2 District Court. For prosecuting attorney, Republicans Mike Goetz of Lake Orion and Kimdon Peters of Rochester are on the ballot. On the ballot for water resources commissioner is Republican Robert E. Buxbaum of Oak Park. Current commissioner Jim Nash’s term expires this year.
The presidential primary is March 8. Voters must be registered by Monday, Feb. 8. Republican candidates on the primary ballot are Jeb Bush, Ben Carson, Chris Christie, Ted Cruz, Carly Fiorina, Lindsey Graham, Mike Huckabee, John R. Kasich, George Pataki, Rand Paul, Marco Rubio, Rick Santorum, and Donald J. Trump.
Democrat candidates are Hillary Clinton, Roque Rocky De La Fuente, Martin J. O’Malley, and Bernie Sanders.
Voters must be registered for the Aug. 2 primary by July 5. Registration deadline for the Nov. 8 election is Oct. 11.
Voters in Independence Township Precincts 12 and 13 have a new polling place, moved from the Clarkston Community Schools Administration Building to the Senior Community Center at Clintonwood Park, 6000 Clarkston Road. They should have received new voter identification cards early this month.
