Ending with a bang

Hitters finished a stellar season as they ended their spring season at the MHSAA Division 1 Baseball Semifinals.
‘They really brought a lot of excitement to Clarkston Baseball,? said Phil Price, head coach for Clarkston Varsity Baseball. ‘I can’t tell you how many people came up to me and said congratulations. A lot of former players came back.?
He added with a laugh, ‘I told my players they owe me some money for my phone bill because I had to answer so many emails and use so much data and text.?
The Wolves finished the season as MHSAA District and Regional champions with an overall 21-13 record. They moved on to the semifinals for the first time since 2002 when they defeated Brighton, 4-1.
‘This year’s team had a lot of character,? Price said. ‘We struggled early. The weather wasn’t good. Then, they just came on. They really overcame a lot of things. They were really impressive with how they performed. You have to tip your hat off to them – for high school kids to perservere like they did.?
He added another good characteristic about the team was the depth.
‘It wasn’t like we only had nine guys,? Price explained. ‘We had 20 guys on the team who really could play and contribute – that made us better because we consistently had to compete.?
The 2014 Clarkston Varsity Baseball team was: Jacob Armstrong, Max Bain, Andrew Dalrymple, Adam Klebba, Peyton Lannon, Jacob LaPorte, Kevin Miller, Nick Morey, Jordan Oliverio, Alex Peck, Joe Popp, Ryan Rea, Blake Rehahn, Mitch Smith, David Steward, Drew Stewart, Eric Uhlig, Jake Velisek, Nate Witt and DJ Zezula.
‘The one thing I will always remember with this team is we had great leadership,? Price smiled. ‘All of our seniors did a really good job.?
