Goodrich- On Tuesday morning the village council voted 4-0 to give the final go ahead to work on Erie Street.
The Erie Street project will begin on June 16 when school is dismissed and includes milling, reservicing of about 1,200 feet of roadway, and repair to drains along the section from the culvert over Kearsley Creek west to the end of the street.
Construction costs are estimated at $225,000 with the village’s share about $45,000, along with $35,000 for engineering costs. The project should be completed by Aug. 27.
Chris Brinks, an engineer with WadeTrim attended the special Goodrich council meeting on Tuesday morning and said residents can expect work on Erie Street for about 60 hours each week.
In 2012 the village council, by a 4-0 vote, approved bonds to finance the cost of improvements to the Dutch Road Bridge over the Kearsley Creek and repairs to Erie Street. Shelby Township-based Dan’s Excavating was awarded the bid for the job.
The construction cost of the Dutch Road Bridge improvements was completed last summer and included the replacement of the deck. The federal funding will pay $336,000 and the village will paid $17,400 along with engineering costs of $87,000 for the project.
‘The bond money will allow for any expenses for the engineering and design,? said Jakki Sidge, village administrator.
A total of $275,000 will be used from the bond rather than dipping into the fund balance and will be paid back over approximately 10 years.
