Brandon Twp – For the past year Greg Norman has been busy refreshing programming on the local cable station.
In a yearly written request to renew his contract as Cable Coordinator, Norman informed the board that within the past year the local station expanded staff with students from Brandon High School, updated equipment and produced more local programming in order to upgrade service to viewers.
Norman said he and his staff have added programming including a 30 minute program featuring interviews with Brandon senior citizens sharing past memories. The program, Conversations with History, airs on Thursday evenings at 7 p.m.
Brandon students have also produced monthly 60-minute shows featuring local rock groups, airing the first Friday night of each month.
In the next year Norman hopes the station will produce a cable web page, continue to update the studio, which is located at the high school, and cover all board meetings with two cameras for a more professional looking program presentation.
Brandon Township Supervisor Ron Lapp said the board approved Norman’s contract renewal, but the board wants to insure the station is more actively involved in covering community public events.
‘We need a more proactive Channel 18,? said Lapp.
‘We are going to require he shows meetings each month, and to present a monthly report to the board, just like all the rest of the township departments do.?
Norman was hired two years ago when Fire Chief Bob McArthur resigned from coordinating cable activities on the cable board.
