Three Brandon Township officials resign

Three Brandon Township Board officials are moving on to other phases in their lives.
At their June 16 meeting, the board accepted the resignations of Becky Gilpin, recording secretary for the Planning Commission and the Zoning Board of Appeals; Deea Emmons, recording secretary for the Brandon Township Board, Village of Ortonville and Brandon Township Fire Board; and Planning Commission Trustee Vernon Scott.
Gilpin has been with the township for about four years, according to Brandon Township Supervisor Ron Lapp, while Emmons has served three years with the township, two years with the village and 1-1/2 years with the fire board. Emmons has accepted a position as legal secretary for Township Attorney Stu Cooney, while Gilpin is leaving to pursue other interests, Lapp said.
‘I’m sorry to see them go,? he said. ‘I thought they both did a good job. It’s a taxing job. A lot of people don’t understand how important minutes become when you place them in a historical perspective. It’s important that we have good, accurate minutes.?
Lapp said the township is trying to consolidate the recording secretary positions for the township board, Planning Commission and Zoning Board of Appeals into one position, and has advertised the position as such.
She will still be involved with township issues, as the township board approved her appointment to the Planning Commission to replace Scott, who resigned his seat after having served since 1992.
