Due to this summer’s successful showing, Lake Orion’s Farmer Market has elected to stay open an extra month longer.
Held each Wednesday from 2:00- 6:00 p.m., the market experienced a dramatic increase in vendors and foot traffic this summer. Whereas previous years ended in early September, the market looked at the increase to 15 vendors as a solid incentive to expand the date into October.
Because of this strong community response, the market’s request for extension was warmly approved by the Lake Orion DDA, Township Board, and Village Council.
As the market turns the page on the summer season and steps into autumn, visitors can expect even more yummy local produce. Market manager Janet Hartman said the vendors have plenty of high quality organic and non-organic produce, meat, and eggs. ‘If you love your vegetables, all the more reason to hang on . . . until October 10,? Hartman said.
And speaking of hanging on, despite the weird weather experienced this spring, Hartman was proud to announce Michigan apples are making a strong comeback at the market. Grown locally at Bob and Julie DeMuelenare’s orchard near Romeo, visitors to the Lake Orion Farmer’s Market this fall can expect several varieties of specialty heirloom apples. Pies, cobblers, ciders, and caramel-covered apples can’t be far off.
In addition to the fall harvest of corn, squashes, pumpkins, and apples, Hartman has also lined up a new bread vendor sure to please your palate. Fresh from Ann Arbor, Zingermann’s bread will be available at the Lake Orion Farmer’s Market through the end of the season on October 10.
