It’s a family affair at Chiappelli’s Hair and Tanning, 7010 Dixie Highway.
Dan Chiappelli, his wife Barb, and their children Mario and Angelia run the business, an Aveda Concept Salon, under the yellow awning across from the former Farmer Jack supermarket.
They treat customers like family, too.
‘I feel once a client stops in and we work with them, they become like family,? Dan said. ‘People just come by, have a cup of coffee, laugh and joke. Many become friends for life. That’s who we are, that’s what we’re about.?
An award-winning stylist, Barb offers coloring, highlighting, and other services, which will soon include hair extensions and men’s hair pieces.
Angelia, a certified spray tanner, offers personalized service.
‘No machines, no orange, just a beautiful golden glow, perfect for homecoming, wedding, and prom,? she said.
She also offers nail and facial waxing services.
Dan has been in the hair cutting business for 42 years, starting in Bloomfield Hills in 1968. He bought his first business in 1971, the latest at Deer Lake Athletic Club for the last 10 years.
‘I’ve cut Evel Knievel’s hair, Robbie Knievel’s, senators, judges, professional athletes, we do them all,? Dan said.
They bought the former Sunroom Tanning salon, remodeled it, and opened last year.
They offer several specials, including $10 haircuts to all Clarkston athletes, K-12, year round.
‘It’s something I’ve always done ? we like Clarkston athletics,? Dan said. ‘We love the Clarkston community and the people in the area. We’re people persons. That’s how we are as Italians, we love people, and we’re looking forward to meeting new people.?
Barb graduated from Clarkston High School in 1979. Mario graduated in 2002 from Brother Rice High School, and Angelia is a 2004 Clarkston graduate. Their brother, Dominic, is a 2007 Clarkston High School graduate attending college in Minnesota.
‘I want to follow in my father’s footsteps, own my own business instead of working for other people,? said Mario, also an Oakland Community College student pursuing a law degree.
‘I love it, it’s definitely a family environment, a more personal experience,? Angelia said. ‘When you walk in, it’s not just service, I feel we make a bond.?
