Leonard reunion set for Sept. 8

For the benefit of all pre-1970 graduates, the old Leonard High School will have a class reunion on Satuday, Sept. 8. The reunion will take place at 225 East Elmwood St. in downtown Leonard, just around the corner from the school.
The reunion will begin at p.m., with food served at 2 p.m.
Leonard photographer Tobi Britsch will be on hand to take professional pictures beginning at 3:30 p.m. These photos will be available for $5 through her website, www.visionsbytobi.com.
Dinner will be shared under tents on the lawn of organizer Char Sutherby’s home. She requests that visitors bring a dish or two to share in the potluck dinner. Beverages are also self-provided.
This is the first year for the event, but more may be planned, depending on attendance. Sutherby’s co-organizer, Kaye Olson, expects attendance will be in excess of fifty people.
One of the items for discussion at the reunion is how to best preserve the old Leonard High School facia. Neither organizer went to school in Leonard, but as preservationists, they realize the value of the building to the area. ‘It’s part of history that’s going to be gone if we don’t take care of it,? said Sutherby.
First constructed in the late 1880s, the structure burnt down twice before the present building was dedicated in 1935.
