Completing a motion first approved in August 2011, the Addison Township Board voted unanimously on July 16 to approve wording on a marker designating the Lakeville cemetary as a historical site.
Constructed in partnership with students at Eastern Michigan University, the historical marker contains information about the origin of the cemetery and the Revolutionary War soldier interred there.
“This is a grand addition to Addison Township ? to have its cemetery designated with a historical marker,” said Township Supervisor Bruce Pearson.
The small informational marker will be mounted near the cemetery’s entrance on a single-post and will contain about 20 lines of text in a 24-inch-by-36-inch space.
Total cost to the township will be $1,908.
Pending approval in September by the Michigan DNR, Addison residents can expect to see the sign installed in the near future.
