A strength of the Clarkston softball team all season, hitting, led to their elimination from the postseason last weekend.
The Wolves could not come up with any offense as their season ended with a 1-0 loss to Walled Lake Western.
Kelly Robinson pitched well for Clarkston, but the one run Walled Lake Western scored in the sixth inning was enough for the victory.
‘We ran into a very good pitcher but we put the ball in play and had three good scoring chances,? Clarkston coach Al Land said. ‘We just were not able to get the big hit when we needed it.?
Heather Giroux had two hits for the Wolves.
Walled Lake Western’s Lauren Talbot went the distance for the win. It was her seventh consecutive shutout. Talbot extended that streak to eight with a shutout in the regional championship game.
Clarkston finished the season with a 25-13 record and a district title. They had 10 league losses and finished in third place.
‘I thought we had a nice season,? Land said. ‘We won two of three tournaments and finished in third place in probably the toughest league in the state. We were in every ballgame. Our defense was outstanding and we were a good offensive club. The biggest surprise was probably Kelly Robinson who had a nice season on the mound.?
Robinson finished with 19 wins on the season.
