The Wolves have taken their first win in the OAA Red in their season opener after competing against Stoney Creek, March 27.
The Girls Varsity Track and Field team won their meet, 94-34.
“It was a good first meet,” said John Yorke, Lady Wolves’ head coach. “It was a solid win. We had a lot of first race performances that I thought did particularly well.”
The Lady Wolves swept the high jump and the shot put events. Anna Manilla led the way in the high jump in first place with a 5’2″ finish. Tessa Manilla took second place, 4’10” and Seneca Moore took third place, 4’6.”
“Anna finished great in the high jump,” said Yorke. “It is really high for the beginning of the year.”
For the shot put event, Joslyn Hastings took first with 20’11”; Sarah Poduba, second with 20’9″, and Cherelle King, third with 13′ 9.5.” In discus, Laura Smokaoska took first with a 80′ distance and Kayle Sherwood took second, 78’4.”
Anna Manilla also took first in the long jump, 14’2″, and the 400-meter dash, 1:06.75.
Franzi Loetzner finished in first place in the 300-meter hurdles, 49.56; and third in the 100-meter hurdles, 17.68. Also, for hurdles, Maicey Peterson took second in the 100-meter hurdles, 17.47, and third in the 300-meter hurdles, 50.8.
For distance, Natalie Smith took first place in the 3,200-meter run, 11:46, and the 800-meter run, 2:26.22. Kaitlin Catania took third in the 3,200-meter run.
Madison Wilson took first in the 100-meter, 13.91, and the 200-meter dash, 27.63. Taylor Mullins finished in second in the 200-meter dash, 28.15.
“Madison and Taylor were a nice surprise,” Yorke added. “They are our freshmen sprinters.”
The Lady Wolves took first and third place in the 1,600-meter run with Erin Billette finishing in first, 5:27.6 and Jill Harris in third, 5:45.
For the relay events, the girls took first place in the 3,200-meter , 10:07.02; first in the 1,600-meter, 4:36; first in the 800-meter, 1:57; and second in the 400-meter, 57.94.
The boys team also won their meet, 97-30. They took first in 13 events including four relay races.
The Wolves finished the 3,200-meter relay in 8:27; 1,600-meter relay in 3:37; 800-meter relay in and the 400-meter relay in 46.85.
Devon Williams took first in the 100-meter dash, 11.84, and the 200-meter dash, 24.87. Blake Sutherland finished 54.28 in the 400-meter. Sam Tanielian finished the 1,600-meter run in 4:36 and Adam Bruderick finished the 800-meter run in 800-meter run.
Also, Mike Schwartz finished with 5’10” in the high jump; Jacob Turner, 18’5″ in the long jump; Matt Wright, 121’5″ in the discus; and Mitch McCord, 44.5 in the 300-meter hurdles.
Both teams host their first meet next Tuesday as they take on OAA league foe Rochester Adams, 4:30 p.m. at Clarkston High School stadium.
“They are the favorites along with us in the league,” said Yorke. “We are looking forward to it.”
