In 1998 Brandon Township resident Gary Singles had a rare find.
‘I noticed the 55 Chevy with 39,000 miles on it a construction worker had near the Great Lakes Crossing,? said Singles, who retired from General Motors after 18 years.
‘The worker had towed the Chevrolet two door sedan up from Texas’he said it was in a barn for 25 years. There was just no rust on it. Other then where the sun and baked the paint off, the car was in pretty good shape.?
Singles drove the Chevy for couple of years before he made some serious changes.
The stock 235 six cylinder engine was replaced with a 572 cubic inch big block Chevrolet engine tuned to 900 hp. The car was painted with 2008 sunburst orange and the interior is now leather.
‘There’s plenty of other changes,? added Singles. ‘I’ve won mulitable awards with the car.?
On Feb. 24-26 Singles along with hundreds of other hot rods will be at the 60th anniversary Meguiar’s Detriot Autorama at Cobo Center on Feb 24-26.
