Local charity looks to raise funds

Clarkston charity Lend a Helping Hand is looking to raise some money for Clarkston Realty employee Susan Burns.
Burns is in stage three of Melanoma, which is the most serious form of skin cancer. Burns needs approximately 30 shots for treatment, with each shot costing $1,000.
‘Right now they don’t have a cure but this vaccination would really slow down the process,? Lend a Helping Hand member Michelle Phaup said.
The Clarkston charity is holding a golf event to help pay for the medical expenses. The event will be held at Devil’s Ridge Golf Club in Oxford on Thursday, June 12.
Golf tickets are $125 per person and includes 18 holes of golf and cart, breakfast, hot dogs at the turn, steak and chicken dinner, entertainment and prizes.
To register for the golf outing, contact Brenda Benedict or Michelle Phaup at (248) 625-1400 or send a fax to (248) 625-6361.
Lend a Helping Hand is a relatively new charity in the Clarkston area.
‘Our goal is to do fundraising to offset medical cost for people in the community with serious medical conditions,? Phaup said. ‘We hope to grow this organization and help a lot of people.?
More than one million Americans are diagnosed each year with skin cancer, the most common form of cancer. Of these, about 54,200 people will be diagnosed with melanoma, the most serious form of skin caner.
