Despite rumors of its closing, L/S Pharmacy is still ‘happily open.?
‘Our service, our prices and the way we treat our customers make us different,? said Co-owner Luke Awdish. ‘Since we’re an independent establishment, we treat our customers more than just a number in line. They get faster service, more courteous service, and I think we put ourselves on the other side of the counter.
‘We essentially treat customers how we would expect to be treated.?
Awdish said the closing of nearby Bald Mountain Pharmacy caused confusion about the status of his own business. He added there was no comparison between the two businesses, and pointed out some of the services that make L/S unique.
‘We’re partners with SaveMore drug stores, which allows us to get better prices through a wholesaler,? Awdish said. ‘We have faster delivery to the pharmacy, so if we don’t have a drug in-stock, we’ll have it here the next day and we accept electronic prescriptions which helps us fill prescriptions faster.
‘Through our rewards program, we also can offer better prices. For example, many drugs we offer are $4 for a 30-day supply or $11.99 for a 90-day supply.?
Awdish and his wife, Halla, bought the pharmacy in 1993. Awdish was working at General Motors and Halla worked at another chain druggist. They decided there had to be something better available to those with pharmaceutical needs.
The original drug store opened in the mid-1960s as Arnold Drugs before two partners purchased the business, moved it into a supermarket called Family Foods at M-24 and Atwater.
The pharmacy eventually moved to a medical building, during which time then owner Zaven Melkonian retired. In 2004, L/S Pharmacy settled in the Beaumont Building at 1455 S. Lapeer, Suite 101.
