Icers hoisted their MHSAA Regional trophy in the air on Saturday at Perani Arena in Flint.
They defeated three teams on their way to the claim the honor, the most recent was against Bay City with a 5-4 win.
Dillon Drayer started the game off with a hat trick in the first period.
Brad Pizzey added his goal in the second period to further the lead.
Adam Larkin scored on a power play to seal Clarkston’s winning fate as Bay City only scored once in the second period.
The Wolves spent their time in the last period holding onto their lead putting up defensive stops. Bay City only scored three in the final period.
Before going in the Wolves were ready.
“It’s a big game,” said sophomore Nate Lowell. “We have to come out strong and play our best.”
The boys made 24 shots on the net and freshman Jack Viazanko had 21 saves. Pizzey and Macario Torres had three assists each for the night and Larkin had two.
Viazanko was in the goal on Thursday night for his 8-0 shut out against Flint-Kearsley Holly.
“I am glad we got through it and got some goals,” said Coach Bryan Krygier. “We played well. We moved the puck well. I wanted to make sure we did and didn’t play down to their level. I am glad the guys stepped up.”
Drayer also had a hat trick in the mercy win against the Hornets, beginning three minutes into the game with an assist from Pizzey and Larkin on a power play.
His next one came with 9:19 remaining in the period as Clarkston kept putting the pressure on Kearsley, with another assist from Pizzey and Torres.
With 2:41 left Austin Morse passed the puck to Joshua Sowers and he took position in front of the net for the third goal. Another goal with six seconds left from Larkin ended the period, 4-0.
“We came out with a little more energy,” said Lowell. “We scored more goals and we have been more motivated.”
The boys kept the pressure on the Kearsley’s net and scored two more each period, two from Morse and two more from Larkin.
The final goal was from Morse ending the game with 6:43 left in the third period.
Viazanko had seven saves in the net and the boys made 41 shots on the goal.
“We had a good effort,” added Lowell. “It was good to see us come out strong.”
For the first round of Pre-Regionals, the boys beat Grand Blanc, 5-3. Two goals came from Pizzey, one each from Torres, Connor Hughes and Adam Bruderick. Viazanko had 13 saves and Troy Fasseel had four.
The boys move on to the Quarterfinals on Thursday to take on Novi (21-5-1) at the Perani Arena in Flint, 6 p.m.
The winner moves to the semifinals on Friday. They will play the winner of the Lake Orion/St. Clair Shores match up, 6 p.m.The finals are Saturday, at 6 p.m. Both games are at the CompuWare Arena in Plymouth.
