The puck rebounded and Brad Pizzey skated taking a shot as he swept past the net and the goalie.
He stopped at the wall with his hands up in victory – he had just tied the score against Farmington on Dec. 9.
The boys kept the momentum finishing the OAA Red game with a 3-3 tie.
The game was sent into an overtime period and Farmington’s Zach Massa scored with 1:45 to go in the extra period.
“We played well,” said Clarkston Boys Varsity Hockey Coach Bryan Krygier. “We played hard. We had a pretty good intensity. We got the puck to the net. We pressured their goalie and their defense.”
The boys faced Farmington earlier in the season when they played them in the championship round of the Clarkston Thanksgiving Tournament on Nov. 27. They lost the game in a 3-0 shut out.
Capitalizing on turnovers, keeping within one goal on the board and playing at a high pace speed showed fans and Farmington the Wolves were a different team.
“The tie shows we made a noticeable improvement,” said Krygier. “We are working hard. We are trying to be disciplined – we only had two penalties. It was a good fast-paced game.”
Pizzey scored the first goal for the night seven minutes into the game and received an assist from Adam Johns and Chad Wotton.
“We were around the net looking for those rebounds, tips and redirection,” said Krygier. “We pressured them pretty good.”
The second goal was made with 9:13 left in the second period. Wotton shot the puck from the blue line and Nate Lowell stood waiting in the crowd in front of Farmington’s net. He finished Wotton’s pass and put it in the net.
The Wolves stayed close to the net during the final period taking shots on the net when opportunities were presented.
Senior Adam Morse scored the final goal with 3:16 to spare in the period. He hit the puck and snuck it past the goalie. Johns and Adam Bruderick assisted on the goal.
“It still counts as a tie in the league. It doesn’t count as a loss. We each get a point,” Krygier added.
Clarkston made 29 shots on the net and Goalie Alec Gildner had 31 saves.
The boys continued their momentum with a win over North Farmington/Harrison on Saturday, 4-2.
Pizzey scored two goals in the third period to secure the win for the Wolves. His first he received an assist from Macario Torres and Dillon Drayer. His second was scored on an opportunity when the net was empty.
Morse put the boys on the board in the first period, assist from Connor Hughes and Bruderick.
Drayer scored the second goal to grab the lead before North Farmington tied the score. He was assisted by Torres and Adam Larkin.
“They are good team,” said Krygier.
The boys put 28 shots on the net. Freshman Jack Viazanko had 26 saves for the night.
The Wolves host their annual Christmas tournament this Friday and Saturday.
They play Hartland at 5 p.m. on Friday for the first round. Davison and Novi play following the game.
The consolation round on Saturday begins at 12 p.m., followed by championship game.
