The Boys Cross Country team picked up their speed on the rainy trail during the Hanson Invitational on Saturday to win it.
They finished in first place out of 14 teams with 84 points. Romeo followed in second with 100 points.
“It was a good job for us,” said Coach Mike Taylor. “We beat a couple of teams that had beaten us earlier in the season.”
The teams they beat included Birmingham Seaholm and Brother Rice.
“I was surprised we got past Seaholme because they had beaten us in the OAA meet.”
Adam Bruderick led the boys with a fourth place finish. Dan Byrne finished in eighth place; Michael Culver in 16th; Austin Draving in 20th and Jake Brokenshaw in 32nd.
The B team also ran at the Hanson Invitational in another race and finished fifth out of nine teams. The team was led by Jeremy Kelley, finishing in fifth. Other medalists included Aaron Toth, in 14th place and Michael Wang, 19th.
“We have had more time to train,” said Taylor. “We have been doing a lot of speed work. They are getting used to running in the rain. Every weekend they are getting drenched.”
The boys finished in fourth place at the OAA Red Jamboree #2 at Stoney Creek Metropark. Lake Orion won the Jamboree with 45 point. Bruderick led the Wolves and finished in fourth place. The team finished with 91 points for the run.
The boys head to the Oakland County meet on Saturday at Kensington Metropark in Milford.
“Rochester, Rochester Adams and Oxford are probably even with us,” said Taylor. “We have a lot of evenly matched teams right around us.”
The boys run at 10 a.m.
“The spirits are high,” said Taylor. “The guys are working really well.”

The Girls Cross Country team also heads to the Oakland County meet on Saturday and begins at 10:30 a.m.
They finished the Hanson Invitational in fourth place with 111 points. Romeo finished in first.
Andrea Butler led the team and finished in tenth place.
They finished the OAA Red Jamboree #2 in fifth place with 98 points.
Butler led in 11th place and Kaitlin Catania ran closely behind in 13th place.
