Quarterback Nick Demattia pulled his arm back and threw a 13-yard pass towards the endzone as Troy’s defense closed in.
Wide Receiver Chris Canada caught it widening Clarkston’s lead in their home game. A PAT from Alex Barta brought the boys to 21-0 with 1:54 left in the third quarter.
The Colts wouldn’t go down with a shut-out and scored on a 94-yard drive ending the game, 21-7.
“It feels great,” Demattia said after the game. “We couldn’t do it without our lineman. They stayed after practice every day working on plays and working hard during practice. I thank the linemen for stepping it up this week.”
Demattia scored on Clarkston’s first ball possession on a quarterback keeper from the 1-yard line.
“He is making strides,” said Kurt Richardson, long-time Wolves Head Football Coach, on Demattia’s second game as a starter. “He has a few things to work on but he is getting there and he is young.”
Clarkston’s scored again in the first quarter. Running back Joey Goss ran the ball 17-yards avoiding defense tackles on his way to score his scoredown with 1:09 left in the first quarter.
Richardson said it was important to get the lead early in the game and leading 14-0 into the second quarter was boys’ response.
“We told them Troy was going to play us rough,” he added. “We needed to get a jump start on them.”
The win put the boys at a 3-1 overall record and 3-0 in OAA Red.
The Wolves take on another league foe this Friday night.
“It’s going to be a good game,” said Demattia. “We will try new things in practice and stay practice. Last week we had a good week of practice. We did a lot more game type situations which really helped and we went at it 110 percent.”
The Pontiac Phoenix are 2-2, 1-2 in their first season in the OAA Red.
“It will be fun going going back to Wisner Stadium,” Richardson smiled.
Kick off is at 6:55 p.m. at historic Wisner Stadium, 441 Cesar Chavez Avenue in Pontiac.

The Freshmen had a late start in their game at Troy last Thursday. The rain and lightning delayed the game. The team beat Troy, 24-7, putting their record 3-0-1. JV followed suit and beat the Colts, 37-17, for their fourth win.
The Freshmen and JV teams host Pontiac on Thursday. Freshmen kicks off at 4:30 p.m., Clarkston Junior High School Stadium. JV begins at 7 p.m. at Clarkston High School Stadium.
