Coach: spikers will have ‘amazing? season

This year’s volleyball team is still a work in progress, says Coach Bob Howey, but it’s getting there.
They’ve played in two tournaments already this season, and both times they were beaten by the tourney champion.
‘We did pretty well. We’re not quite where I’d like but I think we’ll get there,? Howey said.
Though the team graduated quite a few players last year, many this year are returning varsity players, helping to elevate the team. In total there are two seniors, 10 juniors and two sophomores.
‘The coaching staff thinks this year and next year should be amazing,? Howey said.
He hopes to contend for the league title this year, or at least make it to the top three, and go on to take the district title.
‘Our team has goals to go even farther than that, but regionals will be tough,? Howey said.
What makes the current team unique is its closeness and its level of experience, says the coach.
He added, ‘They’re pretty serious about what they want to do with volleyball this season and how hard they want to work. Most of them played at a high level with club volleyball also. It’ll be a fun, exciting year.?
This year, senior center Alyssa Wesley, junior outside hitter Shannon Murdock and junior defensive specialist Maddie Hutchinson will lead the team as captains.
