The Wolves hit the practice field Monday afternoon after spending the weekend celebrating a huge victory over Troy-Athens, 42-10.
“We played pretty decent,” said long-time Wolves Head Varsity Football Coach Kurt Richardson. “We still have a few things we have to work on. Overall it was a good game.
“We got offense going,” he added, referring to offense scoring 17 points in their first two games and doubling it in one game.
The difference in the three games was the execution against Athens.
“We just executed better and that was the main thing,” said Richardson.
Quarterback Nick Demattia put Clarkston on the board in the Wolves’ first drive, scoring on a 1-yard touchdown. The play followed running back Joey Goss’ 58-yard run.
They kept the momentum going into the second quarter and scored again – this time it was Goss on a 52-yard touchdown pass from Demattia.
Troy-Athens added a field goal to the board and another touchdown from Goss ended the first half, 21-3.
“We got Joey going and he had a good game,” said Richardson. “Nick was outstanding.”
The Red Hawks came back and scored a touchdown at the beginning of the half only to have their excitement crushed by Wolves running back Evan Montgomery.
He scored the Wolves’ fourth touchdown on a 74-yard run and put Clarkston further into the lead.
“Evan played really well,” said Richardson. “He had a good game.”
The final touches for the game came from Max Collins and Matt Dellinger. Collins caught a 30-yard touchdown pass from Demattia. Dellinger also scored after receiving Demattia’s 31-yard pass.
Barta scored six PATs for the night.
The Wolves finished the game remain undefeated in the OAA Red after their last two league games. They prepare this week for the Troy Colts (2-1, 1-1 OAA Red.)
“Hopefully they gained a little offense confidence,” said Richardson. “Troy always plays us extremely tough. We are going to have to bring our ‘A’ game again.”
Kickoff is at 6:55 p.m. on Friday night at Clarkston High School Stadium.

The JV football team hosted Troy-Athens in the their home opener on Sept. 9. They beat them 33-20, remaining undefeated in their third game.
The freshman team tied against Athens, 14-14.
The freshman and JV football teams travel to Troy High School for their Thursday games.
