Lauren Sharkey cradled the ball in the net of her lacrosse stick for a moment before swinging it into the net.
She added onto Andrea Kovacic’s earlier goal to bring the girls into the lead against Swartz Creek, 2-1. Swartz Creek tied the score and Sharkey struck two more times bringing the control back into Clarkston’s hands.
The girls finished the game, 13-7.
The teams went into half-time at 5-4. Stephanie Dellinger added the last one in the half and Swartz Creek’s Courtney Chiros added two in the last few minutes.
Sharkey finished with five goals for Saturday.
‘It was a good game,? said Coach Renee Turner.
The teams got a late start as Turner quickly grabbed the JV coach and Moriah Champion to fill in as referees because of a mistake in time.
‘It was a little bit weird but Brian Gilbert , Swartz Creek’s coach, is a gentleman and was a good sport.?
The girls take on University of Leggett next Tuesday. It’s a pick-up game they added to the schedule. JV plays at 5:30 p.m., varsity follows.
‘I am really excited about the remainder of the games we have left and the remainder of the season,? said Turner. ‘They are really meshing. I have renewed enthusiasm. They are learning to become young adults and a lot goes with that. I am proud of their overall conduct. They play as a team ? those were my original goals.?
The next day they start MHSAA Regional playoffs and play Hartland.
Clarkston has yet to play them because the regular scheduled game during the regular season was cancelled.
‘I am hoping for a good game,? said Turner. ‘If they play like they have been, we have a lot of promise. I tell them to play like they have been, play your best game and give 100 percent.?
The girls take on Hartland at Lake Orion High Schools at 5:30 p.m.
