Seniors Matt Deitz and Naron McDougal led the Wolves attack in the varsity wrestling team’s first dual meet win in the season.
Both pinned foes from Goodrich and Grand Blanc last Wednesday.
McDougal (152) set the pace for the boys going first against Goodrich and pinning his competition with four seconds to go in the first period.
Deitz (145) acted like a bookend finishing the match with his pin seven seconds remaining, also in the first period. The six points put the Wolves in a 39-25 win over the Martians.
Also, scoring wins for Clarkston were Zac Roberson (119), 9-5; Ty Foltz (140), 3-0; Evan King (160), 7-2; Ethan Frick (171), pin 1:23 into match, Adam Meyers (215), pin 2:58; and Scott Devos (275), void.
McDougal and Deitz followed the same suit as they pinned their Grand Blanc competitors less than a minute into the first period, helping the boys win 47-30.
‘The guys wrestled well for their first meet of the year,? said Joe DeGain, head coach. ‘We had enthusiasm and brought intensity to the wrestling mat.?
King was the first grappler to get the winning streak going posting the first six points after he pinned a Bobcat, 1:02 into the match.
Grand Blanc scored during the next set but Matt Vandermeer (189) broke the tie scoring a technical fall and adding five points.
Devos followed the lead and made a pin with eight seconds in the second period.
The Bobcats pulled into the lead scoring on a void and a pin, but Roberson and Nick Vandermeer (125) pulled the boys back into the lead, creating a four point difference.
The Wolves continued to put a distance in the score as Cody Ellsworth (130), Dietz, Kyle Broughton (145) and McDougal posted the next four wins. Ellsworth won 15-4 and Broughton 2-0.
‘Some mistakes were made and we will continue to work on them,? admitted DeGain. ‘But they brought everything they had to the match. It is very promising. We have to keep that throughout the season.?
The boys finished the week taking fourth place at the John Glenn Rocket Invitation in Westland. The team beat Romeo, Melvindale, and Belleville. They lost to Roseville by two points, 35-33, in the determining match for third place. They also lost to host John Glenn.
The boys head to Avondale on Wednesday for a dual meet and Howell for the Wilkinson Classic on Saturday.
