ATLAS TOWNSHIP-Many vacant areas are being scoped by developers for the possibility of new construction. Coolidge Road is among them.
You won’t see the typical movie store, gym or restaurant in this area. A site plan has been submitted to the Atlas Township Planning Commission for a convent.
The commission approved a plan Sept. 19, 2001, but it was brought back by the applicant shortly thereafter. The applicant, through the Burton development firm Creekwood Architecture, is seeking approval on a revised plan due to cost-cutting expenses that seemed necessary to the budget of the plan.
The applicant failed to make an appearance on Monday, Feb.24, therefore the plan could not be considered.
The structure will include a worship chapel and small parochial school, according to the site plan.
Almost 20 residents in the area attended to hear information regarding their land and how the campus may affect them. Since the applicant did not show, however, no voices were heard on this issue.
Commission Vice Chairman Rick Misek said, “The site plan approval was postponed until the next scheduled meeting on March19. We will hear from them on that date and go from there.”
